Day 140: Common sense vs common beliefs
In our science departments we often come across the terminology ‘common sense’ where scientist prove to us how ‘incorrect’ our common sense is in relation to the proof that they had obtained in their experiments. But is this common sense actual common sense or is it just common beliefs and common ideas?
For instance the catharsis hypothesis says: “if individuals vent their anger and hostility in non-harmful ways, their tendency to engage in more dangerous types of aggression will be reduced”. So if one also believed in this theory one would see this as ‘common sense’. For instance one would allow one’s friend to scream into a pillow as this is a non-harmful way of releasing aggression / anger.
Social psychologists view having this ‘belief’ as being ‘common sense’ to a wide range of people. But as one can clearly see this a ‘belief’ as part of one’s pre-programmed design where self had acquired this ‘program’ as a ‘belief’ from someone who told oneself or someone who showed oneself or someone we learnt from as a model, that ‘if you vent anger in non-harmful ways you will be less inclined to use aggression.’
Having such a belief has nothing to do with common sense, yet everything to do with a ‘belief’ or an ‘idea’ that self had accepted to be ‘true’, thus manifesting within and as oneself this belief or this idea about certain aspects of human behaviour.
Common sense is about ‘sensing’ what is here within this reality. Sensing here is not referring to ‘feelings’ as ‘feelings’ and ‘emotions’ are part of the pre-programmed designs that we had accepted and allowed ourselves to participate within and as.
So let’s take one step backwards here, emotions and feelings are part of the polarity game where we had programmed ourselves to attach positive or negative charges to the memories of events / experiences / occurrences / knowledge that we have had and through this association we generate and create ‘feelings’ as all the positive associations and ‘emotions’ to all the negative associations; thus creating a feedback loop of emotions and feelings to ‘guide’ us through life, but not actually remembering how we had associated our experiences; which then leads us to be directed by our emotions and feelings without us actually being in the driver seat; but instead our pre-programmed designs being the driver’s seat. So ‘sensing’ with ‘emotions’ and ‘feelings’ we can immediately see that what we are ‘sensing’ is just in fact our own beliefs that we had accepted and allowed ourselves to participate within and as.
So let’s get back to “what is common sense then?” The ‘sense’ that is common to all – Meaning all have access to this ‘sense’, though not all is applying this ‘common’ ‘sense’.
So what IS ‘common sense’ then? When we learn to slow ourselves down and place ourselves in the shoes of another and walk their experience as though it is our own, completely allowing ourselves to become the expression, become the personality design, become the pre-programmed design that another has accepted and allowed themselves to become, and then allow ourselves to walk the consequential outflows of what one’s actions might bring – We gain ‘access’ to the information that is ‘common’ , as this information is ‘here’ as ourselves; which is what we are ‘sensing’; thus seeing for instance that in the catharsis hypothesis one is able to discharge the pent up energy (scream into a pillow) that one has created, but it does not remove the point of creation in terms of how one is generating the energy in allowing oneself to use acts of aggression. Walking in the shoes of another one is able to see the creation of the point of generating the energy and thus give oneself access to understanding the support that is required to assist the other person to not recreate the experience of anger / aggression.
Our social psychologists have now disproven the catharsis hypotheses, but have also stepped into the polarity opposite dimension where they state that releasing anger in non-harmful ways may actually strengthen aggressive behaviour; which when we look at this with ‘actual common sense’ – we can see that when one is continuously programming oneself with aggressive behaviour one will become aggressive in ones pre-programmed design, thus the acting out of aggression will occur as self is continuously confirming to oneself that this is who self is. Though going back to the catharsis hypothesis – we were looking at a totally different scenario where a friend was ‘venting’ their anger in a moment, which allowed the friend to discharge the energy that was created within them. Thus when allowing oneself to look at actual common sense – we are able to discern and see how human behaviour is created and enacted by looking at who we are / will be when we are faced with the same situation, coming from the same programming as another.
